Zusammenfassung:Provided are: a liquid crystal alignment film which is capable of forming a liquid crystal display element having good contrast even when exposure energy for photo-alignment treatment is low; and a liquid crystal alignment agent which is capable of forming such a liquid crystal alignment film. The invention relates to a liquid crystal aligning agent, which comprises polyamic acid or a derivative thereof obtained by reacting a tetracarboxylic acid derivative with diamines, in the liquid crystal aligning agent, the tetracarboxylic acid derivative comprises a compound represented by a formula (I), and the diamines comprise at least one selected from a group consisting of a formula (DI-13) and a formula (DI-17-1).
