Disclosed herein is a fluid transfer device comprising a housing, a distal introducer portion configured to pass through a needleless access connector of a vascular access device, and a wheel member, the wheel member is rotatable relative to the housing and is operably coupled to a probe to advance the probe through the distal introducer portion and retract the probe through the distal introducer portion. The fluid transfer device also includes a connector member positioned proximate the distal introducer portion, wherein the connector member includes a pair of opposing distal gripping portions, a pair of opposing proximal gripping portions, and a locking member. The locking member is operably coupled to the wheel member, and the locking member is configured to prevent actuation of at least a portion of the connector member when the wheel member is rotated to a first position, and to prevent actuation of at least a portion of the connector member when the wheel member is rotated to a second position.
