Zusammenfassung:Disclosed is a crtW gene from a brevundimonas strain encoding a novel ketoenzyme for carotenoid synthesis. Exemplary synthetic operands containing additional related carotenoid gene sequences are also provided, wherein expression of the synthetic operands is used to produce ketocarotenoids. Suitable DNA expression constructs derived from these sequences are inserted into expression hosts for expression.
