Zusammenfassung: | The present invention proposes the use of specially designed layered nonlinear optical devices (LNOs) for intra-cavity harmonic generation. The LNO generates harmonics and directs the generated harmonic beam to a path different from the fundamental beam path by total internal reflection, which means that all light is reflected when light in one ("internal") optical device is sufficiently obliquely incident on the interface of a second ("external") optical device having a lower refractive index than the internal optical device. Harmonic waves in a fundamental wave beam laser cavity do not need to be coated. The generated harmonic beam does not propagate through any surface within the fundamental beam cavity. Therefore, the reliability of the intra-cavity harmonic generation laser is improved, especially when the harmonic is in the ultraviolet range.
