The invention relates to a whitening composition and an application of the whitening composition in cosmetics. The whitening composition is prepared from the following raw materials: glabridin, dimethyl methoxy benzodihydropyranol, tetrahydromethyl pyrimidine carboxylic acid, hydroxyl pinacolone retinoate and a melanin inhibitor. The melanin inhibitor is any one of SymRaidane 399 and SymRadiane 388, and the melanin inhibitor is any one of SymRaidane 399 and SymRadiane 388. The whitening composition is prepared from the following components in parts by mass: 0.01 to 5.0 parts of glabridin, 0.01 to 6.0 parts of dimethyl methoxy benzodihydropyranol, 0.01 to 7.0 parts of tetrahydromethyl pyrimidine carboxylic acid, 0.01 to 0.3 part of hydroxyl pinacolone retinoate and 0.1 to 12 parts of melanin inhibitor.
