The steel comprises the following chemical components in percentage by weight: 0.40%-0.45% of C, 0.18%-0.28% of Si, 0.35%-0.45% of Mn, less than or equal to 0.018% of P, less than or equal to 0.015% of S, less than or equal to 0.20% of Cr, less than or equal to 0.20% of Ni, less than or equal to 0.20% of Cu and the balance of iron and inevitable impurities. According to the method, the SWRH42A wire rod for nail making is manufactured by adopting the production process of 120t converter + LF refining + small square billet continuous casting + heating furnace heating + controlled rolling and controlled cooling rolling, so that the mechanical property and the drawing property of the SWRH42A wire rod are ensured, and the cold heading qualification of the SWRH42A wire rod is also ensured.
