The housing defines a through channel along a length of the housing and is configured to support a set of electrical insulators surrounding the through channel to form an electrically isolated disconnect in the drill string such that each insulator of the set of insulators is subjected to a force that does not exceed a compressive force in response to extension and contraction of the drill string. The housing defines a housing cavity for receiving an electronic package having a signal port, and the housing is configured to electrically connect the signal port across an electrically isolated disconnect. To enhance emission of positioning signals, the housing cover may cooperate with the main housing body to define an elongated slot.
