According to the present invention, the elemental analyzer is adopted as the test instrument, the vanadium pentoxide is adopted as the catalyst, the sufficient combustion of the carbon fiber is ensured by controlling the ratio of the carbon fiber to the catalyst and the combustion condition, the standard deviation error of the final carbon content test result of the carbon fiber is not more than 0.15%, and the test precision is significantly improved compared with the prior art. The method is particularly suitable for testing the carbon content of the high-carbon-content carbon fiber.
