A plug connector has a housing, a connecting element, a retaining element and a contact fastening insert. The connecting element has a contact sleeve and a contact for the conductor. The contact fastening insert has a through hole. The housing has a first receiving space and a second receiving space which are accessible through a first opening and a second opening opposite each other in the housing. The second receiving space is accessible via the first receiving space. The retaining element can be plugged together with the connecting element in such a way that the retaining element engages at least partially around the connecting element. Subsequently, a conductor may be disposed through the through-hole. This arrangement can be inserted into the housing regardless of the azimuthal orientation of the connecting element until the contact fastening insert is latched in the first receiving space, the contact is arranged within the first receiving space, and the contact sleeve is arranged within the second recei
