A spectrally selective solar absorber coating (2) for a receiver of a solar thermal or thermodynamic system, comprising, in order:-an infrared reflective multilayer structure (21, 22); -an absorbent multilayer cermet structure (23); and-an anti-reflective multilayer structure (24). The invention relates to an infrared reflective multilayer structure (21, 22) for a receiver, said infrared reflective multilayer structure (21, 22) comprising: (i) an infrared reflective base layer (21) having barrier and adhesive layer functions, arranged in contact with a substrate (1) as part of said receiver, and consisting of one or more transition metals selected from Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Hf, Ta, Mo, W, or consisting of nitrides of one or more said transition metals; and (ii) a multifunctional structure (22) placed on the infrared reflective base layer (21) and comprising at least:-a plurality of additional infrared reflective layers (22a) having the function of increasing the infrared reflectivity of the absorber coating (2),
