The present invention describes a disinfection system for disinfecting a mobile electronic device, comprising: a housing; the sterilizer is contained in the shell and is configured to emit radiation with a sterilizing effect; and an access system having a default closed position, the access system configured to allow a mobile electronic device to pass through the access system and then automatically return to the default closed position, the access system comprising a first outer closure and a second inner barrier; wherein the inlet system blocks radiation emitted within the sterilization system to a level acceptable to consumer use, or wherein the second inner barrier provides more radiation attenuation than the first outer closure, and/or wherein the combination of the first outer closure and the second inner barrier provides more radiation attenuation than the first outer closure itself.
