The invention relates to a method for marking steel strip material properties on a steel strip (11). In this case, the method comprises the following steps:-measuring a material property of the steel strip (11) at a plurality of discrete strip positions,-applying a plurality of marks (25) on the strip edge at the discrete strip positions, each mark of the plurality of marks (25) containing a material identification (29) corresponding to the material property measured at the respective strip position (17) of the mark.
