The method comprises the following steps: determining a foreground image according to a monitoring image sequence of a target detection area; extracting an average contrast reduction normalized MSCN spatial domain feature, a differential signal spatial domain feature and a portrait contour spatial domain feature from the foreground image; generating a spatial domain feature vector according to the MSCN spatial domain feature, the differential signal spatial domain feature and the portrait contour spatial domain feature; and determining a crowd density detection result of the target detection area according to the spatial domain feature vector and a pre-trained crowd density detection model. Compared with a traditional crowd density detection method, a more accurate crowd density detection result can be obtained in a complex scene.
