Embodiments of a communication method, a communication apparatus, and an adapter driver are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method of communication involves enabling a signal loss (LOS) detector and a low frequency periodic signaling (LFPS) detector connected to a communication channel, combining an output of the LOS detector with an output of the LFPS detector using a digital logic circuit to produce a combined LFPS output, and transmitting the combined LFPS output to the communication channel.
