A method (100) of treating a microbial biomass, the method comprising: mixing a microbial biomass in a liquid to form a suspension (108), the microbial biomass having an initial color; and exposing the suspension to light (110) to form a treated microbial biomass, the treated microbial biomass having a treated color. The processed color is lighter than the initial color.
