The hydroxy fatty acid is prepared by adopting a method of selectively oxidizing dihydric alcohol, the oxidation reaction is carried out by utilizing the characteristic that an alpha C-H bond of methylal is easy to oxidize, high-selectivity and high-yield preparation of the hydroxy fatty acid is realized under mild conditions, and the total yield of the hydroxy fatty acid is up to 80% or above.
