A method for spatial registration of a first object and a second object includes securing the first object and the second object in an unknown spatial relationship to the same motion console; acquiring an image of the first object using an imaging system; determining a position and orientation of the first object in a frame of reference of the motion console based at least in part on the acquired image of the first object; acquiring an image of the second object using the imaging system; and determining a position and orientation of the second object in a frame of reference of the motion console based at least in part on the acquired image of the second object.
