Some embodiments include a method performed by a network node for indicating a modulation and coding scheme for a wireless device operating in a coverage enhancement mode, where the wireless device operates in a first modulation and coding scheme repeated using a physical downlink shared channel, and operating in a second modulation and coding scheme that does not use the physical downlink shared channel repetition, and wherein the second modulation and coding scheme is a higher order modulation and coding than the first modulation and coding scheme, the method comprising: when the physical downlink shared channel repetition is not used, modulating and coding the first modulation and coding scheme; configuring the downlink control information to indicate one or more parameters related to a second modulation and coding scheme, the indication includes at least a modulation and coding scheme field of the first modulation and coding scheme and one or more downlink control information field bits for reuse when rep
