Zusammenfassung:Operating the engine includes injecting liquid fuel directly into the combustion cylinder through exactly seven injection outlets in the fuel injector, and sweeping an injection jet of fuel against a ramp of a central cone within a combustion bowl in the piston. Operating the engine also includes directing fuel of the swept injection jet to a recessed projection extending circumferentially around the combustion bowl, and divide the directed fuel into a separated small flow above an inclined inner edge surface formed by the piston end face and a circulating large flow propelled upward and inward from the recessed projection toward a fire deck surface of the engine. The directly injected liquid fuel is automatically ignited in the combustion cylinder.
