A display device includes: an afterimage compensation unit that generates an output gradation by applying a weight value to an input gradation when the input gradation corresponds to a still image; and a pixel that displays an image on the basis of the output gradation, the afterimage compensation unit applies a first weight value having an initial value greater than 1 to a first set of input gradation, converges the first weight value to 1 as time elapses, and compensates the first weight value to a second set of input gradation as time elapses.
