Configuring device with credentials by ordering asynchronous work requests

Techniques are described herein that can configure a device to have credentials by ordering asynchronous work requests. Configuring the device to have a portion of the work required to be performed by the certificate is based at least in part on a trigger event indicating that the device is to be configured. An asynchronous work request is generated, the asynchronous work request configured to initiate execution of a corresponding portion of the work when executed. A hierarchical work tree is generated, the hierarchical work tree containing hierarchical nodes representing respective portions of work. The hierarchical work tree defines an order in which portions of work are to be executed.
