The method comprises the steps of obtaining working data of a target cascade hydropower system; constructing a cascade hydropower day-ahead spot clearing objective function; establishing corresponding constraint conditions; and solving the target function by adopting a variable scale optimization method, and completing day-ahead spot clearing of the target cascade hydropower system.
