Zusammenfassung: | A hybrid electric propulsion system for an aircraft includes a gas turbine engine and an electric machine coupled to the gas turbine engine, and a method of operating the hybrid electric propulsion system. A method of operating the propulsion system includes determining, by one or more computing devices, a reference power output of the gas turbine engine; operating, by the one or more computing devices, the gas turbine engine to provide the reference power output; determining, by the one or more computing devices, a desired power output that is greater than or less than the reference power output; and using the electric machine, providing, by the one or more computing devices, power to the gas turbine engine, or extracting, by the one or more computing devices, power from the gas turbine engine such that an effective power output of the gas turbine engine matches the determined desired power output.
