The Mg-Zn-Y alloy is prepared from the following element components in percentage by mass: 3.9 to 4.1 percent of Zn, 2 to 5.9 percent of Y and inevitable impurities lt. 0.2%, with the balance being Mg; carrying out homogenization heat treatment on the Mg-Zn-Y alloy; the Mg-Zn-Y alloy subjected to homogenizing heat treatment is subjected to a multi-pass small-deformation rolling process, and a magnesium alloy plate is obtained; a multi-pass small-deformation rolling process is adopted, the downward pressing amount of each pass is 0.5 mm, the downward pressing pass amount is 8-16 times, and the rolling temperature is 350-500 DEG C. According to the invention, the Mg-Zn-Y alloy with excellent mechanical properties and damping performance is prepared through alloying and plastic deformation processes.
