In the method, the set top box is paired with the mobile device in response to starting of the set top box; according to a received signal strength indication RSSI value of the mobile equipment detected by the set top box after pairing, determining an RSSI reference value for a playing state by the set top box; if the set top box in the playing state detects that the RSSI value of the mobile equipment is lower than a preset threshold value, the set top box enters a pause state to pause the video being played; and if the set top box in the pause state detects that the RSSI value of the mobile device reaches the RSSI reference value, the set top box returns to the playing state to continue playing of the video.
