The invention relates to the field of pipeline engineering construction, in particular to a method for laying a water conveying steel pipe, which comprises the following steps of: laying a pipeline in advance, arranging a plurality of distance sensors on the pipeline at fixed intervals, calibrating, and establishing a three-dimensional track coordinate model of a to-be-laid pipeline and a laid pipeline before laying residual pipelines; the method comprises the following steps: setting a distance sensor on a drilling device, calibrating the position of the distance sensor, setting a detection area in a three-dimensional coordinate system, setting the distance sensor on the drilling device when laying residual pipelines, establishing a three-dimensional track model in the drilling process by detecting the distance between the drilling device and a calibration point, and determining the position of the drilling device according to whether the three-dimensional track model deviates from the detection area or not.
