Expandable rotor

The invention provides a rotor stack for connection to a shaft of a rotating electrical machine, the rotor stack comprising a series of carousels, each carousel centered about a centerline and comprising an opening for receiving the shaft such that the carousels are stacked along the shaft. A channel extends through the carousel and is disposed about the centerline. A permanent magnet is positioned in the channel.
