The invention discloses a video playback method and device, equipment and a storage medium, and the method comprises the steps: transmitting a playback point set to a client when a user watches a live broadcast; in response to a playback instruction for a target playback point in the playback point set, generating and sending an index file to the client, the index file comprising a file index of a live broadcast picture corresponding to a live broadcast time point of the playback instruction and a file index of a playback picture corresponding to the target playback point, and sending the index file to the client, so that the client plays and displays a playback picture and the live broadcast picture on a playing interface at the same time according to the index file. Therefore, the wonderful fragments conforming to the watching experience of the watching user in the live broadcast picture are extracted, and the playback points in the to-be-played-back point set are formed and displayed on the progress bar of
