A method and apparatus for determining a state of a person inside a vehicle are provided. The method comprises the steps that a plurality of first in-vehicle images are sequentially obtained from an in-vehicle image sequence collected by an in-vehicle camera at a first time interval, and at least one in-vehicle image in the in-vehicle image sequence comprises a personnel object associated with an identifier of a first seat in a vehicle; the plurality of first in-vehicle images are separated from each other by a second time interval, and the second time interval is greater than the first time interval; when the first in-vehicle image is obtained each time, face recognition is carried out on the first in-vehicle image; and in response to the fact that the result of each face recognition in the first duration indicates that the person existing at the first seat is the person object, determining the state of the person object by using continuous images collected by the in-vehicle camera at the first time interval
