Zusammenfassung: | The invention relates to a magnetic recording medium for a magnetic medium driver. During operation, the absorption smear may be developed on the magnetic recording head. Absorbing the smear results in shortened driver lifetime. On the other hand, compared with the absorbing smear, the transparent smear does not have the harmful effect on the service life of the driver. By doping the medium with a dopant that may lead to the development of a clear smear, the formation of an absorbing smear can be reduced or even eliminated, which leads to a longer driver lifetime. The dopant may be disposed in the capping layer of the media or in the absorber protection layer. During operation, the dopant will migrate through the medium to a top surface of the medium. The dopant will be deposited on the magnetic head from the top surface of the media and form a clear smear.
