Intelligent connection breast pump

A system and method for improving the efficiency of a breast pump device is disclosed. The system includes a breast pump device having a vacuum pump to provide suction force to a flange attached to a user's breast. The apparatus includes a controller that controls the pump using different pumping operating modes including a charge mode and a pump mode. The pump device may include a pressure sensor that provides data to a transceiver that sends data to an external device. The flange unit may include a substantially circular edge having a layer configured to contact a user's skin to deliver suction force.
