The invention relates to an interface (1) for communicating with an automatic hygiene sheet dispenser and for controlling the operation thereof. The interface (1) comprises a user sensor (2) arranged to have a sensing zone and to detect the presence of a user within the sensing zone, at least one indicator (4, 5, 6, 13) for indicating the setting or status of an operating parameter of the dispenser, and a main microcontroller (48). The interface (1) further comprises at least one additional sensor (3, 12) for adjusting at least one dispenser operating parameter or for triggering at least one dispenser function and an overlay protection layer (7) comprising at least one legend or text.
