Automated disinfection of robotic food equipment using antimicrobial light

An automated robotic food processing or preparation apparatus includes one or more food contact surfaces and an antimicrobial lighting fixture. An antimicrobial lighting fixture includes a housing forming a sterilization chamber and one or more antimicrobial lighting elements, wherein each element emits light at a wavelength, irradiance, and direction sufficient to inactivate one or more microorganisms on a target surface within the sterilization chamber. Upon detection of one or more conditions, the automated food processing device performs an antimicrobial illumination treatment on itself within the sterilization chamber.
