The present disclosure provides an electric machine. An electric machine includes a stator and a rotor. The stator defines a central bore and has an inner diameter. The rotor has an outer diameter and is disposed within the stator. An air gap is defined between the inner diameter and the outer diameter. The rotor defines a plurality of cavities. The rotor has a magnet disposed within each of the cavities. The magnet defines a plurality of pole arc angles. Each pole arc angle is centered on the D axis. The rotor has an outer periphery. The periphery forms a smooth spline curve positioned within each pole arc angle.
