An imaging element is provided with: a first substrate provided with a photoelectric conversion unit that photoelectrically converts light and generates electric charges, and a readout circuit that outputs a signal based on the electric charges generated by the photoelectric conversion unit; a second substrate laminated on the first substrate and provided with a processing unit for processing a signal output from the readout circuit; and a connection part which is provided with a bent part that is bent at a portion other than the vicinity of the first substrate and the second substrate, and which electrically connects the readout circuit and the processing part. 拍摄元件具备：第1基板，其设有对光进行光电转换而生成电荷的光电转换部、和输出基于由光电转换部生成的电荷得到的信号的读出电路；第2基板，其层叠于第1基板，设有对从读出电路输出的信号进行处理的处理部；以及连接部，其设有在第1基板及第2基板的附近以外的部分弯曲的弯曲部，将读出电路与处理部电连接。
