The method comprises the following steps: adding a monomer regulator into a fermentation system to prepare P (3HB-co-4HB); the monomer regulator is selected from at least one of propionate and butyrate. By adopting the method, the proportion of the monomer in the product P (3HB-co-4HB) can be adjusted, and the effect of increasing the content of the 4-hydroxybutyric acid monomer in the P (3HB-co-4HB) is achieved.
