Electronic device for updating firmware using secure integrated circuit and method of operating same

An apparatus and method for updating firmware by using a secure integrated circuit in an electronic device. An electronic device may include a secure integrated circuit (IC) providing a generic execution environment and a secure execution environment. The secure integrated circuit includes a main processor operating in a generic execution environment and a secure processor operating in a secure execution environment. The secure processor is configured to perform user authentication based on firmware update information received by the host processor from the server. If the user authentication succeeds, authentication information corresponding to the firmware update information is generated and stored in at least a portion of the secure memory.
