Laundry treatment appliance and method for steam treatment of laundry

The invention relates to a laundry treatment appliance with a steam treatment function. The laundry treatment appliance includes: a lye container including a heating body recess having a heating body accommodated therein; a drum rotatably arranged in the alkali liquor container; a door for closing the opening of the lye container through which the drum can be accessed, the door having a viewing glass protruding toward the drum, the heating body recess being arranged lower than the door in the operating position of the laundry treatment appliance; a water supply line configured to supply water to the heating body groove, the water supply line being positioned in the lye container such that water to be supplied to the heating body groove can flow through the protruding observation glass; and a control unit configured to control a volumetric flow rate of water to be supplied to the heating body groove through the water supply line such that the water bypasses the drum along the observation glass and can be guide
