Distributed position determination system and method

The invention provides a decentralized position determination system and method. A mapping system for an environment includes an image sensor configured to generate image data of the environment. The charting system includes a fixed label that includes a position marker, where the position marker identifies predefined position coordinates of the fixed label. The mapping system includes an entity tag that includes an entity tag, where the entity tag identifies an entity associated with the entity tag.
