Examples include high throughput analysis of cell and protein products using a range of fluorescence assays, including binding affinity measurements and time-resolved enzyme assays. The invention relates to laser-based microcavity content extraction. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to a system comprising an array of a plurality of different cavities, the cavities comprising an open first end and an open second end; an electromagnetic radiation absorbing material associated with the cavity; and a pulsed diode laser configured to deliver electromagnetic radiation to the electromagnetic radiation absorbing material.
