There is provided a camera system for a vehicle, the camera system comprising: a camera for capturing an ambient environment of the vehicle; and a protection element. The camera has an optical element having a light incident portion and a holder supporting the optical element. The protection element is provided separately from the optical element and the holder, and is placed on at least the light incident portion of the optical element. The protection element has a viewing port that exposes a portion of use of the light incident portion.
