Zusammenfassung: | The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a carbonaceous material with which it is possible to obtain an electrochemical device having a high initial capacitance, a high effect of suppressing gas production during charging and discharging, and excellent durability; a method for producing the carbonaceous material; an electrode active material for an electrochemical device, which contains the carbonaceous material; an electrode for an electrochemical device, which uses the carbonaceous material; the present invention relates to a carbonaceous material having a BET specific surface area of 1550-2500 m2/g, an oxygen content/hydrogen content value of 1.00-2.10 mg/m2 per unit specific surface area, and an electrical conductivity of 10-15 S/cm as measured by powder resistance at a load of 12 kN.
