Polymer foam article and method of making polymer foam

Molded polymer foam articles are described as having novel foam structures. The polymeric foam article includes a continuous polymeric matrix present throughout the entirety of the article defining a plurality of bladders therein, the plurality of bladders included in a surface area extending 500 microns below a surface of the article. The surface region is also characterized by a compression bladder. Even when the molding includes a thickness greater than 2 cm, a volume greater than 1000 cm < 3 >; a new foam structure is also achieved when a polymer foam article having a volume greater than 1000 cm3 and a thickness greater than 2 cm, or both a volume greater than 1000 cm3 and a thickness greater than 2 cm.
