System and method for generating design based on design template and additional design

An apparatus includes a processor configured to receive a user input indicating that a first design element has a first content role during editing of a first design. The processor is configured to: generate a content signature of the first design, the content signature indicating that the first design element has a first content role; a second design is generated based on the design template: and the second design is updated by applying the content signature to the second design. Generating the second design includes adding a third design element having the first content character to the second design based on a determination that the design template includes the second design element having the first content character. Applying the content signature in the second design includes transferring content from the first design element to a third design element.
