The invention provides a general control system and method for a programmable attenuator. The system comprises a programmable attenuation device, an attenuator management module, a programmable attenuation device configuration module and an attenuator control module, the attenuator management module is used for generating an attenuator configuration file, wherein the attenuator configuration file comprises configuration information corresponding to programmable attenuators of different models; the programmable attenuation device comprises a plurality of control interfaces, wherein the control interfaces are connected with the programmable attenuators; the programmable attenuation device configuration module is used for selecting the control interfaces and the attenuator configuration information for the programmable attenuators; and the attenuator control module is used for controlling the attenuators according to the control interfaces connected with the attenuators and the attenuator configuration data. 本发明
