Cooling device identification system

The present disclosure provides a cooling device, such as a fan installed in a computing device, which can be automatically identified by reading a coded signal from a signal line of a tachometer of the cooling device. The cooling device may temporarily output a coded signal in response to a trigger event, such as a power-on event (i.e., power-on of the cooling device). A controller, such as a baseboard management controller, may receive the encoded signal and decode the signal to determine identification information about the cooling device, such as supplier information and/or module information.
