The present disclosure provides a detection system (100, 200) for detecting an electrical discharge in an electrical apparatus, and a method for detecting an electrical discharge in an electrical apparatus. The detection system (100, 200) includes a first sensing device (101, 101a) configured for sensing an acoustic wave (3) and an electromagnetic wave (4) and generating a first combined signal (SC, SC1) and a signal processing device (110) configured for processing the first combined signal (SC, SC1) to determine the occurrence and properties of an electrical discharge (1).
