The invention relates to a membrane module (1) for a humidification device (2) for humidifying air. The membrane module (1) has a membrane (3) which is permeable to water and which extends flat on an extension plane (6). The membrane module (1) is provided with a shell (17) on the outer side of the extension plane (6); the shell (17) forms a gap (20) adjoining the end face (13) of the membrane (3), thereby achieving a higher efficiency and a longer service life of the membrane module (1). A sealing device (21) of the membrane module (1) is arranged in the gap (20); the sealing device is subjected to a mechanical load through the shell (17) and seals the end face (13).
