In particular, the method comprises the step: transferring the cytotype of a transformation-recalcitrant plant line, e.g., a transformation-recalcitrant maize line, from a transformation-recalcitrant cytotype to a transformable cytotype so that the line becomes transformable while preserving its nuclear genome.
