The adsorbent contains a porous carbide and iron, and has a substantially cylindrical shape having a long axis (D) and a height (H), the ratio (H/D) of the height (H) to the long axis (D) being 0.5-5, and the long axis (D) being 1-20 mm. The iron content may be from 5% to 35% (inclusive). The content of organic carbon in the carbide may be 30% or more and 85% or less.
